Meet Cynthia

A former teacher, broadcaster, barrister and mediator, Cynthia was elected to the European Parliament in 2024, representing the people of Ireland South and is a member of the liberal Renew Europe group.

Prior to her election, Cynthia worked for 27 years as a self-employed barrister in the Irish Courts at all levels representing private clients as well as legally aided clients, in the areas of family law and civil law.

Cynthia is currently a full member of the IMCO (Internal Market and Consumer Protection) committee covering single market, digital agenda, consumer rights and smart regulation and also a full member of the PETI (Petitions) committee, covering Petitions lodged by citizens of the EU and, Relations with the European Ombudsman.

Cynthia is also a substitute member on the TRAN committee, responsible for common legislation on transport in the EU including for the rail, road, inland waterway, maritime and air transport sectors.  This committee also oversees tourism policy and supports and complements the tourism actions of the Member States.

Additionally, Cynthia serves as a full member of the Canada-EU and substitute member of the Australia and New Zealand-EU delegations.
