I first got involved in campaigning with my local TD and it was a great opportunity to learn how to serve an area. Over the years, I have been involved in countless campaigns around the country from European Elections to Local Elections and the opportunities that I have been presented as a result has been fantastic.
You learn a lot on the campaign trail, not only how to manage time or how to dress for the weather – you learn what the public need and the importance politics has on your locality. Most importantly, I have made great friends through campaigns (physical and virtual) and that will always be the best gift volunteering gave back to me.
I have also been on the admin end of a campaign from designing graphics to strategic planning and it is a fantastic way to get involved if canvassing isn’t accessible to you. The role of social media is vital in modern politics and it can make all the difference in a tight campaign – it is a great way to help a candidate out.
