Speaking in the Seanad today, Senator Timmy Dooley called for a strategy to address the input crisis in the agricultural sector.
Senator Dooley commented, “In the context of the war in Ukraine, we must implement a strategy to address the costs of farming inputs across the board. Farmers are facing challenges in terms of the crisis in the supply of grain, fertiliser, and animal feed.
“Addressing this crisis is crucial in terms of food security and protecting an uninterrupted supply of food. This crisis will affect farmers across the board and we must support farmers to ensure they can continue to farm while protecting their incomes and the affordability of food for consumers.
“I welcome the Minister's announcement of €12 million yesterday to support Irish farmers and I look forward to working with colleagues to support farmers across Clare and the rest of the country.”
