Tánaiste and Uachtarán Fhianna Fáil, Micheál Martin TD has this evening paid tribute to Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin Bay North Seán Haughey, following an announcement of his decision to not contest the next General Election.
Deputy Haughey was first elected to Dublin City Council in 1985 and over the course of an illustrious career went on to serve the people of Dublin as a Lord Mayor, Senator, T.D and as a Minister of State for Education.
Paying tribute to Deputy Haughey, Tánaiste and Uachtarán Fhianna Fáil, Micheál Martin TD said, "Seán Haughey is a man of great integrity, a fine parliamentarian and someone who takes pride in being meticulous in every aspect of his work.
"Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to the well-being of those he represents. Whether advocating for their needs in Dáil Éireann, addressing their concerns, or working tirelessly to enact positive change, Seán has always placed the interests of his constituents at the forefront of his efforts. He possesses a deep understanding of the weight of the responsibility entrusted upon him and his dedication to serving his community has been unwavering.
"Seán fully recognises the importance of fostering understanding and cooperation on the international stage and has always maintained a deep interest in global affairs, particularly in the Middle East. His commitment to hard work and upholding strong European values has been central to his approach.
"It has been a great honour to work alongside him, and I would like to extended my sincere thanks and best wishes to Seán on my own behalf, and on behalf of the Fianna Fáil organisation, as he embarks on a new chapter.''
