Fianna Fáil’s Social Protection Spokesperson Paul McAuliffe has said that the Social Democrats have not made any provision to increase the State Pension in their manifesto.
Commenting the General Election candidate for Dublin North West said, "In their manifesto the Social Democrats make the claim that they will ‘end the auction politics on pensions by linking the State Pension to at least 34 per cent of the average wage’. However, there appears to be no allocation in their costings for this. It is an empty promise with no money underpinning it.
"Fianna Fáil on the other hand has a fully costed plan to increase the State Pension to €350 per week over the lifetime of the Government.
"The Social Democrats need to be straight with voters. If they are in Government, there is no money set aside to increase the State Pension.
"The voters have a choice on the 29th of November between credible costed proposals put forward by Fianna Fáil and the Social Democrats aspirational ideas that don’t have the money set aside to see them actually delivered'', concluded McAuliffe.
