Fingal Senator Lorraine Clifford Lee has welcomed the General Scheme of a bill which will facilitate the introduction of Safe Access Zones outside maternity hospitals and clinics providing termination of pregnancy services.
The Fianna Fáil Fingal Senator said, “Having campaigned for Safe Access Zones since the introduction of abortion services in Ireland it’s very welcome to see the General Scheme of this Bill which we hope to see enacted before the end of the calendar year.
“Women accessing termination of pregnancy services must be protected from anti-abortion protestors who seek to upset and shame women in very vulnerable and difficult situations.
“Minister Donnelly has committed to prioritising this legislation when the Dail and Seanad return in the Autumn and I will be urging my colleagues to work together to get this legislation over the line in order to protect women accessing abortion services.”
