Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Housing, Planning and Local Government, Darragh O’Brien, has welcomed the news that Rush Garda Station will reopen at last once it is safe to do so in line with the easing of the current COVID-19 restrictions.
In response to a parliamentary question raised by Deputy O’Brien, the Department of Justice confirmed that Rush station is currently being held as a contingency building, in the event other stations become impacted by Covid-19 infection but will reopen once it is safe to do so.
Deputy O’Brien said: “This station should never have closed in 2012 and it’s reopening has been delayed for a number of years; however, I am now pleased that we can move forward with the reopening in the coming months.
“I am pleased to hear that work on Rush Garda station has been finished at long last and the building has been handed over by the OPW to the Garda authorities.
“The reopening of the station will be a vital resource for the people of Rush and one which I have worked hard on to get back in our community alongside my colleague Cllr. Brian Dennehy. People will feel safer now there is a presence of local community policing set to return to Rush and it’s important that the Garda opens without further delay,” concluded Deputy O’Brien.
