Fianna Fáil Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee has today welcomed the announcement from Fingal County Council that a new €10 million public swimming pool will be built in Balbriggan. The facility, which will feature a six-lane 25-metre pool, is set to be located in Castlelands, just one kilometre south of the town centre.
The project has now moved into the preliminary design and planning stages, with the council expecting to submit a planning application by the end of this year. Subject to funding, construction could begin by late 2026.
Senator Clifford-Lee, who has been a long-time advocate for the construction and delivery of a swimming pool for Balbriggan, described the announcement as a 'gamechanger' for the people of North County Dublin.
The Fianna Fáil Senator has repeatedly highlighted the growing population in North Fingal and the urgent need for recreational infrastructure to match the rapid housing development in the area.
"This is fantastic news for Balbriggan and the wider North Fingal area. I have been campaigning for a public swimming pool here since my election to the Seanad in 2016, raising the issue with successive Ministers for Sport and the Taoiseach. Currently, there is no public swimming pool accessible to residents in North Fingal, an area experiencing exponential population growth. This new facility will serve not only Balbriggan but also surrounding towns such as Skerries, Rush, and Lusk.
"This is a victory for our community, and I look forward to seeing this long-overdue project come to life," she concluded.
