Fianna Fáil TD for Carlow, Jennifer Murnane O’Connor has called for an urgent resolution to the issue of securing occupational pensions for Community Employment (CE) supervisors.
Speaking to An Taoiseach in the Dáil, Deputy Murnane O’Connor commented, “I want to ask about CE supervisors and what is being done to support them in their request for recognition of their fine work.
“CE Schemes are designed to help those in long-term unemployment or those who are disadvantaged or find it impossible to get mainstream work to have a job in their local communities and they provide childcare, elderly-care and drug rehabilitation services and these supervisors are a vital part of these schemes running effectively.
“There is a deep sense of frustration felt by CE supervisors and assistant supervisors in trying to secure an occupational pension.”
The Carlow TD added: “The State hires these supervisors and to all intents and purposes employs them. A resolution must be found without further delay. These are good people working very hard for the State and should be entitled to a pension for just reward for all they have done.”
