The Minister for Mental Health and Older People, Mary Butler TD has today announced a further extension to the Temporary Assistance Payments Scheme for private and voluntary nursing homes.

Recognising the risk to residents that COVID-19 outbreaks can represent, and the financial pressure that they can put on nursing homes, the Minister for Health and Minister for Mental Health and Older People have decided to extend the TAP Scheme to support private and voluntary nursing homes with the financial pressure they may be affected in the instance of an outbreak. The extension period will be for 3 months and see the scheme operate until the end of September 2022.

The Scheme, has been adjusted to target areas of need after considering the current circumstances of the pandemic.

The maximum value of the overall monthly cap on claims will be set at €33,000 and will cover only additional staffing costs that arise from Covid outbreaks. Non-pay costs will no longer be eligible expenses under the scheme.

The Minister and Department are grateful for the continuous engagement from the sector and for all the work to ensure the safety of the residents and the staff.
