Fianna Fáil MEP Billy Kelleher joined local communities in West and North Cork to raise funds for two very worthy causes - neurodivergent pupils in Presentation National School, Millstreet and the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland in Macroom.
Kelleher, the MEP for Cork, joined local Fianna Fáil TD, Aindrias Moynihan and Councillor Gobnait Moynihan at a coffee morning organised by the local school in Millstreet to raise funds for the two ASD units in the school.
“Later in the week. MEP Kelleher attended the annual and very successful Alzheimer’s Tea morning that Deputy Moynihan organises in Macroom.
“I was absolutely delighted to attend both these events and to support two very worthy causes. There is a real sense of community in both Millstreet and Macroom. It’s clear that in both communities that there is a solidarity between generations and with people dealing with challenges in their lives.
“During my visit to Macroom, I also met with students from the town’s secondary schools who were undertaking a very interesting and timely mobility study to identify how the town’s streets can be made more accessible and safer. It was an eye-opener for me, and I really hope that the local authority, who were present on the day, will take note of the students' findings and take action.
“As an MEP, you can, at times, get caught up with macro issues such as European legislation or geo-political issues. However, it’s important to keep yourself grounded and in touch with the people you seek to represent. For five years, I have continually visited communities such as Macroom and Millstreet, and if re-elected, I will continue to work on the ground and listen to the people,” concluded Kelleher.
