Living Alone Allowance should be increased during COVID19 crisis – Browne

Fianna Fáil TD for Wexford James Browne is calling on the Minister for Employment Affairs & Social Protection to increase the Living Alone Allowance for people over 70 for the duration of the COVID19 pandemic.

He said, “There are hundreds of older people living on their own across Wexford. Many of them are finding this cocooning period quite difficult as they can no longer get out to meet people or have family or friends over to their homes.

“Not only are they feeling more isolated, but many are concerned about what additional costs they will incur having to remain at home – things like delivery charges and phone credit. By increasing the Living Alone Allowance for the over 70s, it would ease the financial burden on them and put their minds at ease.

“I am calling on Minister Doherty to give this proposal the serious consideration it deserves”, concluded Deputy Browne.
