On the 47th anniversary of the Dublin-Monaghan bombings, Monaghan Fianna Fáil Senator Robbie Gallagher is seeking an update following the 2016 All-Party Dáil motion on the bombings and what progress has been made with the British government. Senator Gallagher raised the issue in the Seanad today (May 17th 2021) with Minister of State at the department of Foreign affairs, Colm Brophy TD.
Senator Gallagher commented, “Today, 17th May 2021, marks the 47th anniversary of the Dublin-Monaghan bombings.
“It is difficult to imagine that 47 years on officially or legally we are no wiser as to who was responsible, the role of the British state and what happened or what group(s) were responsible for this atrocity in which 33 people lost their lives – seven from County Monaghan and 26 from Dublin.
“I call on the Minister to reinvigorate our efforts and the efforts of the Government on behalf of the people of this country, especially the people of Monaghan and Dublin, to request the British Government to release the papers so that the families can finally bring closure to this and so that they can put the memories of their loved ones to rest and finally realise who or what was behind that atrocity on that fateful day.”
