Fitzpatrick welcomes decision to build homes on Oscar Traynor Road

Fianna Fáil Senator in Dublin Central, Mary Fitzpatrick, has welcomed a decision by Dublin City Council which will clear the way for more than 850 homes to be built on the Oscar Traynor Road.

The deal will see 40% of the units going to social housing, 40% will be assigned to cost rental housing with 20% to be set aside for affordable purchase.

Senator Fitzpatrick commented, “I very much welcome the decision by Dublin City Council to vote in favour of public housing on public land.

"Under the proposal, rents will be offered at a minimum discount of 25% below market rate. The purchase price for the affordable units will begin at €204,000 for a one-bedroom unit, €227,000 for a two-bedroom unit and €250,000 for a three-bedroom home.

“Housing remains the single most urgent and important social issue facing our country and I find it astonishing that Sinn Féin not only voted against this development but voted against a deal better than their 2015 and 2019 proposals.

"This is a much-improved deal on last year’s proposal and signals a real commitment by my party colleague and Minister for Housing, Darragh O’Brien, to deliver affordable housing.  I am calling on Sinn Féin to do the right thing for renters and would be home owners and not oppose this development when it goes for planning permission.''
