Dublin Central Senator Mary Fitzpatrick has said the €24.7 million allocated to the redevelopment of Dalymount Park by her party colleague, Minister for State Thomas Byrne, means construction can begin on what is a game-changing project for Phibsborough.
Fitzpatrick confirmed that Dalymount Park was successful in applying for funds under the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) for its redevelopment, which will provide an entirely new UEFA Category 3 stadium and football pitch.
As part of the redevelopment, the historic stadium will be demolished to create a brand new 8,000 capacity, four-sided enclosed stadium with a sand based grass pitch and a new community facility over two floors which includes a multi-functional community room and community gym.
She said: “This is a momentous day for Bohemian F.C., Phibsborough and indeed the entire footballing community in Ireland.
“I have supported the club in their application for this funding and I am absolutely delighted that this allocation of €24.7 million means that construction can now commence.
“Dalymount Park is a historic landmark in our capital city and indeed our country. Not only is it home to Bohs, but it is so much more to than that to the local community.
“This redevelopment has been in the works for a long time and I would like to congratulate all stakeholders involved who have put so much work in to bring it to this stage.
“I am proud to have worked closely with all stakeholders to help get this funding over the line. This is a truly transformative project for Phisborough and I look forward to supporting it through to completion.”
Minister of State for Sport Thomas Byrne said: "This funding underscores our commitment as a Government to seeing sport prosper in communities across Ireland. The major sports projects funded under this round of the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund encompass a wide variety of sports and activities, reflecting the varied sporting interests of communities nationwide. From multi-sport complexes to specialised facilities for individual sports, these investments aim to cater to the needs of athletes, clubs, and local communities."
