Fianna Fáil will today launched a policy document reaffirming its commitment to cherishing Ireland’s older generation and ensuring they have the supports needed to live with dignity and independence.

Launching the policy document today, Minister Mary Butler said, Since 2020, Fianna Fáil provided over €500 million in additional funding to the nursing home sector. If returned to Government we will increase funding for the Fair Deal Scheme in line with population growth, build more public nursing home beds and provide an additional one million home care support hours annually. We are also committed to establishing 20 new dementia-specific day care centres using existing facilities.”

Fianna Fáil will raise the State Pension to at least €350 per week, maintain the retirement age at 66, increase the Living Alone Allowance and abolish the means test for the Carer’s Allowance.

“Income security is essential to a high quality of life for older people. Our proposals ensure that pensions remain robust, and allowances reflect the realities of older people’s lives,’’ said Paul McAuliffe.

“We understand that carers are the backbone of our society. Whether it’s providing care for an older member of the family or a person with a disability, carers are doing work that is too often unheralded. Our policy ensures they receive the recognition and financial support they deserve.”
