Fianna Fáil candidate Dee Ryan has come out strongly today with a call for equality and fairness in treatment of all independent candidates in Limerick's first directly elected Mayor campaign, saying RTÉ’s exclusion of a number of willing Independent candidates does not serve voters in Limerick.
Speaking from her home in county Limerick Dee Ryan said “This is a new and important voice for Limerick county and city and our voters deserve an opportunity to consider and directly compare all candidates who are putting themselves forward to be Mayor. The exclusion of first time Independent candidates is a disservice to the public in Limerick and fundamentally unfair for Independent candidates who, like myself, are putting huge effort into their campaigns. I would call on RTÉ to rethink their decision and take an inclusive approach.”
