FF fully committed to M20 project – Michael Moynihan

Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West Michael Moynihan says his party is fully committed to progressing the M20 Cork to Limerick road.

He was responding to commentary yesterday which appeared to cast doubt on the project.

Deputy Moynihan said, “The M20 Cork to Limerick road, has long been a priority for Fianna Fáil, along with the Dunkettle Interchange. Both will be progressed under this draft Programme for Government.

“The M20 upgrade is a much-needed infrastructure project. As well as improving travel times and removing traffic from towns and villages along the route, the upgrade will reduce the number of collisions and fatalities, which have unfortunately become associated with this stretch of road.

“Phase two of the project is now underway, which is identifying a shortlist of route options, and although the COVID-19 restrictions are making this process more challenging, work is continuing. If the Programme for Government is passed by the membership of the three parties, this project will progress as planned.

“Better connectivity is essential, not only for people who have to commute, but also for businesses. This motorway would greatly improve connectivity across the north Cork and mid-west region. These upgrades were first proposed more than 20 years ago and Fianna Fáil in government will ensure it is progressed under the current timeframe”.
