Fianna Fáil Spokesperson for Justice Jim O’Callaghan has expressed his shock at the death of a 20-year-old man during a violent stabbing incident in the north inner-city last night.
Deputy O’Callaghan said: “I would like to offer my sympathies to the family and friends of the young man who lost his life in this violent stabbing incident last night. Violent knife crimes are leaving communities across the country devastated and this week again we have seen a family plunged into grief with this barbaric stabbing.
“The tragic death of this young man is another example of the escalating violence being experienced in communities across the country.
“It is apparent that in recent years the incidence of knives being used in crime has increased significantly and Gardaí are aware of the growing trends of knife crime in Ireland. Communities are being damaged across the country and families left devastated by this knife epidemic. Stricter laws on knife crime are needed urgently,” concluded Deputy O’Callaghan.
