Written by Alan Dennedy | 01 September 2020

The Department of Justice and Equality has commissioned a scoping exercise in Drogheda which will look at community safety and policing and other community needs, Senator Erin McGreehan has confirmed following correspondence she received from the Minister for Justice and Equality Helen McEntee TD.

She commented, “I welcome the confirmation from Minister McEntee that a scoping exercise into the needs of our community will be conducted. This examination will look at the needs of our community and address what can be done to help our area flourish and deal with the ongoing drug related crime and substance abuse.

“A minority of people residing in the area have put our community on the front pages of newspapers for all the wrong reasons. However, let us not forget the thousands who marched in solidarity with their neighbours who are making Drogheda a wonderful place to live. These people deserve to be credited for their hard work and commitment to our community.

“I welcome that the scoping exercise will engage residents, businesses, and local service providers. Their voice will be very important in this process.

“The scoping exercise, when completed and published before the end of the year, will deliver recommendations which will improve our area. I look forward to working with the Minister to see the report and work on implementing the recommendations that improve Drogheda for all,” concluded Senator McGreehan.
