Fianna Fáil candidate for Mayor of Limerick, Dee Ryan has welcomed the announcement of a review into Urgent and Emergency Care Capacity in the Mid West Region by Minister Stephen Donnelly.

Speaking from her home in county Limerick, Dee Ryan said "Today’s announcement by Minister Donnelly of a review into emergency department capacity for the Mid-West is most welcome. I’ve been engaging with Minister Donnelly over the last number of months, advocating for extra beds at UHL and a model 3 Hospital for the region so I think this announcement demonstrates the importance of ongoing engagement and the value of strong leadership in the Mayor of Limerick's office. That is why I've made Health and Housing my top priorities if elected and I am committed to remaining focused on these vital issues for the people of Limerick over the course of the next five years.

"Other candidates don’t believe the Mayor has a role to play regarding the hospital, today’s announcement shows they’re wrong.

"Of equal importance for me as Mayor is ensuring we have enough housing for healthcare workers and indeed all workers in Limerick - public housing, private housing, student housing and rental accommodation. As Mayor of Limerick, I will be creating a housing committee of sectoral experts and stakeholders to advise me on how to achieve this."
