Ongoing uncertainty around Golf Links Road upgrades unacceptable
Limerick City General Election Candidate Dee Ryan has this week highlighted the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the proposed upgrade of the Golf Links Road junction at O’Shea’s pub which has been with An Bord Pleanála since July 2023.
Ryan, who has worked as chief executive of Limerick Chamber of Commerce for over five years and was a business owner in Limerick City for 10 years prior to that, said: "I have met so many residents on the Golf Links Road and adjoining areas who are locked into their estates due to long term traffic congestion in the area.
"As a working parent myself I know how important it is for people to be able to plan around their commuting times and currently, Monaleen and Castletroy residents cannot leave their homes at peak times. They continue to face intolerable delays tying to access the main arteries of the Dublin Road or Ballysimon Road.’’
She said: "I have made representations on behalf of residents to seek clarity on the status on the Golf Links Road upgrade which has been with An Bord Pleanála for over a year now and has been ongoing much longer.
"This is simply unconscionable, and I have committed to helping residents overcome this. They have simply suffered these delays while the upgrade gathers dust on the shelf for far too long.’’
Ryan also raised the related issues of yellow junction boxes at the entrance to estates such as Caislean Nua, the need for a pedestrian crossing on the road as well as the need to lengthen the sequencing of traffic lights at the Dublin Road junction with Golf Links road in order to allow traffic to flow better during peak commuter hours.
She said: "The council has been made aware of the problems and I am pressing for these solutions as a minimum in the short term. It is unconscionable that the traffic situation is preventing locals from going about their daily lives and trying to peacefully enjoy their local area."
