Fianna Fáil Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee has welcomed the decision by cabinet to approve Gender Pay Gap legislation proposals.
Commenting on the announcement the Dublin Fingal Senator said, “The decision by Cabinet is a really welcome first step on the road to narrowing the Gender Pay Gap.
“This is something I have campaigned on since my election to Seanad Éireann in 2016. I founded and chaired the very first Cross Party Oireachtas Group on Workplace Equality and worked with a number of colleagues on a cross party basis to place this issue firmly on the political stage.”
The Gender Pay Gap Information Bill was originally published in April 2019 and lapsed with the dissolution of the Dáil in 2020. This latest move by Cabinet means that the Bill will be enacted into law in the coming months.
Senator Clifford-Lee added, “Once in force, the new law will require organisations to report on the gender pay differentials in their organisations, setting out pay differences between female and male employees. It will include bonuses.
“The requirement will initially apply to organisations with 250 or more employees but will extend over time to organisations with 50 or more employees. Organisations will be able to indicate the reasons for any gender pay differentials that are reported.”
