Local Minister and Fianna Fáil TD, Dara Calleary, has encouraged communities and businesses in Mayo's coastal communities to apply for the Brexit Blue Economy Enterprise Development Scheme, which is designed to assist coastal communities to overcome the impacts of Brexit and grow and diversify their local economies by promoting the growth of the wider Blue Economy.
Minister Calleary said, "The Brexit Blue Economy Enterprise Development Scheme has a €25 million budget for this year and next year, funded under the EU Brexit Adjustment Reserve and offer grants of up to €200,000 for entrepreneurial initiatives by micro and small enterprises operating in the Blue Economy, within the 10-kilometre coastal remit of the seven FLAGs.
"The aim of the scheme is to support capital investment projects, business mentoring and capacity development and upskilling and training to support and enable individuals to exploit economic opportunities in the blue economy.
"This scheme offers a great opportunity for blue economy businesses to take greater control of their energy costs and become more sustainable by helping to reduce emissions and the impact on our environment.
“I know this scheme will be of immense benefit to coastal communities in Mayo and I would strongly encourage all those eligible to apply,'' concluded Minister Calleary.
Applications must be in one of the following sectors of the blue economy:
- Small Non-Commercial Harbour/Pier Activities
- Boat Building and Repair
- Coastal Tourism
- Marine Leisure and Sport
- Seafood
- Renewable Energy Initiatives supporting the Blue Economy
