Byrne - Journalists and broadcasters who use Artificial Intelligence will replace those who don't

Robots will not replace journalists, but journalists that use Artificial Intelligence will replace those that don’t. The same is true for doctors, teachers and even politicians”, according to Senator Malcolm Byrne, who on Thursday 10th October will host a major technology policy event at the Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey at 7pm.

Senator Byrne has predicted that how we adapt our education and training systems to deal with the technological revolution will be one of the biggest challenges for whatever government is returned after the next General Election. He also stated that how we regulate the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence should be an election issue.

The Gorey Technology Policy Event will focus on Artificial Intelligence, Online Safety and the future of technology. It will hear from amongst others, Seán O’Sullivan, the overall winner of this year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Conference, Niamh Hodnett, Ireland’s Safety Commissioner, Dr. Cian Hughes, Head of Google Health, and the Heads of Public Policy for Meta and Tiktok in Ireland, Dualta O’Broin and Susan Moss.

The Fianna Fáil Senator said,

“We need to have informed public discussion around how we address the opportunities and challenges of new technologies. Almost every aspect of our lives and particularly workplaces is being changed dramatically by Artificial Intelligence and we need more public debate on these questions. Online safety, meanwhile, is a growing yet complex issue, and yet, as a society, our levels of digital and media literacy are dangerously low.”

The conference at the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey on Thursday is free and all are welcome but must register in advance by emailing malcolm.byrne@oireachtas.ie.
