Fianna Fáil Senator and Spokesperson on Higher Education, Malcolm Byrne, is calling for private student accommodation companies to provide accommodation for Ukrainian refugees when the properties fall vacant at the end of term.
Senator Byrne said, “ Already we have seen our universities working with Government to ensure that student accommodation that will be vacant come end of term will be made available in the short term for Ukrainian students. This is the right thing to do and I call on private student accommodation companies to follow suit.
“Private student accommodation companies provide hundreds if not thousands of beds throughout the country which will be vacant during the summer months. This stock of accommodation will provide a much needed short term solution as we accept further Ukrainian refugees and will allow time for other options to be put in place for their accommodation."
