Senator Niall Blaney says he’s taking a break from canvassing to roar support for Donegal against Armagh in the Ulster SFC final.
The Fianna Fáil ‘border candidate’ in the European Election is predicting a tight game but is confident his native county can edge past Armagh to clinch the Championship and lift the Anglo-Celt Cup.
Senator Blaney said: “I’ll be one of thousands of Donegal supporters in Clones on Sunday for the Ulster SFC final. I expect to be hoarse come the final whistle!
“This will be edge-of-the-seat stuff but I have to believe that Donegal will do the business. Overcoming Armagh will be a big challenge. Armagh is a talented and resilient side and there’s no doubt Donegal will have to bring its ‘A’ game to Clones.
“There will be some canvassing and campaigning before the throw-in but for a few hours, politics can take a back seat to this clash of the Ulster titans. It’ll be a welcome distraction from my campaign to win a seat in the European Election on June 7th.
“I might even have a pint or two after the final whistle.”
