Barbaric stabbing in Dublin City highlights the continuing epidemic of knife crime – O’Callaghan

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Justice and Equality, Jim O’Callaghan, has said the continuing issues surrounding knife crime need to be addressed urgently following the latest stabbing in Dublin City Centre.

A man understood to be in his early 20s was stabbed in an early morning attack this morning. The stabbing occurred on Cathal Brugha Street in the north inner city.

The man was taken to the Mater Hospital by ambulance with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputy O’Callaghan said: “The epidemic of knife crime across the country highlights how carrying a knife in public has become acceptable in certain areas. This attitude needs to be addressed.

“This morning a young man was attacked in a violent knife attack shortly before 7am. This vicious assault left the young man in hospital with what I understand are non-life-threatening injuries. I wish this young man a speedy recovery from his injuries, but it again puts the spotlight back on knife crime in the country and the growing complacency towards such crimes.”

“Everyone has a role to play to ensure such barbaric acts never take hold of our community. We all need to be vigilant and show not just zero tolerance, but our revulsion at knife crime by cooperating fully with the Gardaí.”

“The local community are shocked and appalled at this brutal attack and I would urge anyone who has any information whatsoever to contact the local Gardaí,” concluded Deputy O’Callaghan.
