Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West, Aindrias Moynihan has urged PAYE taxpayers to file annual online returns to check if they are entitled to repayments for any previous overpayments.
Deputy Moynihan, who posed a series of questions to the Minister for Finance, commented, “I have been informed that Revenue has, to date, refunded €409 million to PAYE taxpayers in respect of 2020 and €250 million in respect of 2021, this means there is still a large number of claimants for 2021 who have not yet filed returns and could be entitled to repayments.
“I would recommend anyone who has not already done so to file a return. With the current cost-of-living crunch impacting so many people, there could be some measure of financial relief available for those who are deemed to have overpaid.”
The Cork North West TD added: “I asked the Minister to ensure that the process of allowing people to file returns is made as seamless and accessible as possible. I have been informed that over 99% of the tax returns filed to date were received through the Revenue’s online channels with any refunds due paid within three to five working days. Revenue has advised me that it already provides instructional videos to assist taxpayers using Revenue’s online facilities. According to Revenue these are available via the Revenue website and from the Revenue channel on the YouTube platform.”
