Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West, Aindrias Moynihan has revealed that the possible opening of a section of the new N22 bypass at Macroom could happen as soon as the end of this year.
Following a series of questions to the Minister of Transport in the Dáil, Deputy Moynihan was told by the Minister that the early opening of the section in order that Macroom town would be bypassed makes “eminent sense”, the Minister added that “overall, works are approximately 60% to 65% complete with full completion expected in 2024 and a possible early opening of a section of the scheme in late 2022 or early 2023.”
Deputy Moynihan commented, “It would be very welcome if there was an opportunity to open the piece around the town ahead of the rest. I encouraged the Minster to raise that with TII and the various authorities to open the piece around the town first.”
The Cork North West TD added: “The works on the N22 Macroom bypass in general seem to be moving very quickly, which is very positive.”
